AI Power Tools for Sparx EA Docs Release 3.6.4

Updating and uninstalling

AI Power Tools has two parts that update separately: the skills, which come from the plugin, and the AI Power Tools MCP Server for Sparx EA, which comes from the Claude Desktop extension (or the VS Code extension). Both carry the same release number, but updating one does not update the other.

The server tells you. The ea-start-here skill's preflight calls ping with the release of the skills. When the skills or the server are behind the current release, the reply carries a notice that the skill shows word for word. The first tool response after the server starts also says when a newer server release exists, and get_repository_info and check_for_updates report it. For the server, the notice names how it was installed on the machine, which the server tells from where its own program sits on disk, and gives the steps for that package. The server never downloads or installs anything itself.

When the skills are behind, the notice reads: "Your AI Power Tools skills are X; the current release is Y. Open https://claude.ai/customize/plugins, choose Manage marketplaces, and sync novocircle. Then quit Claude Desktop completely and reopen it." When the server is behind, it reads: "AI Power Tools for Sparx EA X is installed; Y is available." followed by the steps for the Desktop extension below. If no server answers at all, ea-start-here says the extension is not installed or is turned off, and gives the download link.

Part Update Uninstall
Skills: plugin from the marketplace The marketplace on your claude.ai account does not sync on its own. Open claude.ai/customize/plugins, choose Manage marketplaces, and sync novocircle. Then quit Claude Desktop completely and reopen it. After the sync a new chat has the new skills; the Code tab has them once Claude Desktop is reopened. If you installed the plugin through Claude Code's own plugin commands instead, run claude plugin marketplace update novocircle, then claude plugin update ai-power-tools@novocircle, then /reload-plugins, or start a fresh session Remove AI Power Tools in the plugin list at claude.ai/customize/plugins, then quit Claude Desktop completely and reopen it. A plugin installed through Claude Code's commands is removed with Claude Code's plugin remove command (run claude plugin --help to see it)
Skills: plugin from a file Download the newer ai-power-tools.plugin file from the latest skills release, upload it in Claude Desktop the same way, then restart Claude. An uploaded plugin does not update itself. Uploading it changes the skills only; the server is untouched Remove the plugin in the same plugin pane
Skills: plugin in VS Code Run EA: Check for Updates, then Chat: Update Plugins from the Command Palette when the skills are behind. See VS Code extension Uninstall ai-power-tools in the Agent Plugins view
Server: Desktop extension Download the new .mcpb, drag it onto the Extensions pane, switch the extension off, choose Update, switch it back on. See below See below
Server: VS Code extension Download the newer ai-power-tools-ea.vsix, install it with VS Code's Install from VSIX command, then reload the window. See below Uninstall from the Extensions view, or run code --uninstall-extension NovoCircle.ai-power-tools-ea

Updating the Desktop extension

The running server holds a Windows file lock on its own program, so Claude Desktop cannot replace it in place. Installing over a running copy fails with a message such as EPERM: operation not permitted, unlink ... ea-mcp-server.exe. Use either of the two methods below.

Disable the extension in the install preview (recommended).

  1. Drag the new .mcpb file onto the Extensions pane. The preview opens with Update at the top right and an Enabled toggle next to Configure.
  2. Switch the Enabled toggle off. This stops the server and releases the lock without restarting Claude Desktop.
  3. Choose Update.
  4. Switch the toggle back on. No restart is needed.

Quit Claude Desktop fully.

  1. Right-click the Claude icon in the Windows system tray and choose Quit. Closing the window alone leaves a background process that holds the lock.
  2. Wait about five seconds. Optionally confirm in PowerShell that no server remains: Get-Process ea-mcp-server -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue should return nothing.
  3. Reopen Claude Desktop and install the new file.

Quit Claude Desktop fully if you hit the error on a machine with no preview toggle.

The update notice carries these steps and a warning to disable the extension before you choose Update. Nothing installs automatically. Nothing needs to be entered again after an update: the server needs no key and no activation.

Uninstalling the Desktop extension

  1. Open Settings, Extensions.
  2. Switch the extension to disabled.
  3. Use the menu next to the extension in the list and choose Uninstall.

Use the list, not the Uninstall button on the extension's own Configure page, which does not always remove the extension in current Claude Desktop builds. Uninstalling removes the program and manifest. It does not remove skills the older skills installer copied earlier into %USERPROFILE%\.claude\skills. See Moving from an older installation.

Updating the VS Code extension

VS Code does not update this extension. Once a day, on activation, it fetches a small update manifest and shows a notice if a newer version exists. Run EA: Check for Updates to check immediately (Commands). Choose Download, then run Extensions: Install from VSIX... from the Command Palette, pick the downloaded file, and reload the window.
