Claude Desktop extension
An extension (AI-Power-Tools-for-Sparx-EA.mcpb) that Claude Desktop installs. It is the AI Power Tools MCP Server for Sparx EA, and the only package that gives Claude Desktop chat, Claude Cowork and Claude Code (the Code tab of the Claude desktop app) the server. One copy per machine serves all three. The skills come from the plugin (Claude plugin).
What it contains
A compiled, signed server and a manifest. It needs no Python on your machine. It runs on Windows only and needs Claude Desktop 0.10.0 or later.
The extension's Configure screen shows five settings. Every one has a default, so installing prompts for nothing.
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Enable diagnostic reports | Off | When on, a failing or slow tool call writes a Markdown report you can send to support |
| Diagnostic report directory | Blank (the server uses a folder under %LOCALAPPDATA%\ea-mcp-server\diagnostics) |
Where reports are written |
| Slow-call threshold | 30 seconds (range 1 to 600) | A call taking at least this long counts as slow and is reported. Used only when diagnostic reports are on |
| Log level | INFO | How much detail the server writes to its log: DEBUG, INFO, WARNING or ERROR. Change it only when support asks |
| Read-only mode | Off | When on, the server refuses every operation that changes the EA repository, including diagram layout operations. Reads, exports to files and reporting databases outside EA still work |
See The AI Power Tools MCP Server for Sparx EA for what diagnostics do.
Who should use it
Everyone who uses AI Power Tools with Claude. Claude Desktop chat, Claude Cowork and Claude Code all get the server from this extension, and the skills call it. The VS Code extension carries its own copy of the server (VS Code extension).
Capabilities on that surface. Claude Desktop chat provides the MCP server and browser control. It does not provide computer use or local code execution, so the assistant hands you the steps that exist only in EA's interface, and the code engines are not available. See Capabilities and surfaces.
Install
- Download
AI-Power-Tools-for-Sparx-EA.mcpb(address in Choosing a package). - In Claude Desktop, open Settings, Extensions and drag the file onto the Extensions pane. Alternatively, open Advanced settings, Install Extension and select the file.
- Choose Install, and keep the extension enabled. There is nothing to configure.
- Start Enterprise Architect and open a project.
The extension's tools appear under the MCP icon in the chat input bar, under the name AI-Power-Tools-for-Sparx-EA. Then install the skills (Claude plugin) and follow Verifying an installation.
Limitations
- Server only. The skills come from the plugin, and Claude Desktop chat and Claude Cowork read skills from plugins only.
- Claude Code in a terminal (the command line) does not load Claude Desktop extensions.
- It does not update itself. The server can tell you a newer release exists, and the update steps are in Updating and uninstalling.
- If you repackage it, every setting must stay optional or have a default.
